The band's leader, Lena Naipo, had a lifelong dream of combining his love of Hawaiian music with his love of big band music. When Lena and Jesse met it began a lasting and award- winning adventure including Kahulanui's first album receiving a Grammy Award nomination. Jesse joined the band as the lead horn player and arranger. They embarked on many extensive tours consisting of sold out crowds and standing ovations.
